About
My project seeks, through the development of new strategies and tools in philosophy of biology to examine the recent social, ethical and political dimensions emerging of biomedical and genetic research related to race. From the
exploration of the scientific controversies and conceptual constructions of race, especially the challenge to its biological design, the main objective of this project is to investigate: i) the constructions and arguments underlying the use and abuse of "race" in science; ii) which definition it tends: "reality with empirical validity" or folk-culture concept; iii) if the race is a useful category to describe human biological variation, and iv) the epistemological, conceptual, ethical and metaphysical implications of the science of genomics related to race, including the recent studies in the search for "genetic markers" between groups, especially diseases related to "race" and "genes" that can be based on biological mechanisms of intelligence.
